National conference debates rights and election for president

After the end of the commemorations for the International Work Day, the priority of the trade union movement moves towards the jobs of mobilization and organization of the Working Class National Conference, scheduled for the 1st of June, at the capital of São Paulo.

Força Sindical and the others trade union centrals are expecting to lead almost 30 thousand Brazilian workers to disccus and create an unitary issue of political, social and economic claims which will be delivered to the candidates male and female to President of Republic.

Worker don’t give up rights
It’s practically consensus at the trade union movement that the workers won’t give up of their rights guaranteed by CLT. The trade union centrals have already announced that they deny any initiative of opening negotiation to flexiblize the work laws.

These matters will be exhaustively debated during the Conference. In relation to the elections, workers want from the next president (male or female) actions to intensify the fight for democracy, for the development of Brazil, with sustainable growth, against the social inequalities, for the enlargement of rigths, workload reduction and for the increase of the offer of job.

Importance of the
trade union entities
“We want a President (male or female) that deeps the democratic process, recognize the importance of the trade unions and combat misery”, says the general-secretary of Força Sindical, João Carlos Gonçalves, Juruna.

He recognized the achievements obtained by workers at the current government, but he enphacized that the people have to take the streets to protest against the postponing of the vote of the PEC 231/95, which reduces the workolad week to 40 hours, with the maintenance of the salaries.

Unit in fight
“Without fight and unit we won’t achieve anything. We have to have strong parties and trade unions to change the laws and to achieve benefits for workers” points the president of the Sewers Trade Union of São Paulo, Eunice Cabral.

“To sum up, our two main banners are the diminution of the worked hours and the enlargement of rights”, says the first secretary of Força Sindical, Sérgio Luiz Leite, Serginho.

To keep the mobilization for the 7,7% and for the end of the social security factor

The Brazilian trade union movement and the retired have reached a historical victory days ago when the House of the Representatives approved the project of readjust of 7,7% to be aplied over the benefits superior to one minimum salary. The index were stabilished by emend of my authory.

At the same time, the deputies have ended with the social security factor, mechanisme which increase the time of work for the person to retire and, beyond this, redudes in 40% the value of the benefit.

Our expectation is that the Senate also approves the project and that president Lula takes in consideration the elections of this year at the moment to decide if aproves or not the increase of the earnings and the end of the social security factor.

The House has voted for unanimity and so will the Senate. I’m sure that president Lula won’t argue with the retired, the House and the Senate because of R$ 600 million.

Another important thing: instead of conceding benefits to the companies, the government should give increases to the retired who bring more benefits to people and economy. Actually, the fiscal impact is small if compared with the cut of taxes made by the government to face the economic crisis in 2009, which came to 20 billions of Reais and the financial speculation.

For this while, the trade union movement, the entities linked to the retired and workers in general have to keep the mobilization for the project of the 7,7% to be approved by the Senate and confirmed by president Lula, with the end of the social security factor.

The commemoration of the 1st of May of Força Sindical counted with the participation of about 1,5 million people

At the capital of São Paulo, whose act counted with the participation of CGTB, more than one million people confirmed the fight banners of the trade union movement at Campo de Bagatelle Square. Beyond leaders linked to the two centrals, the minister of Work, Carlos Lupi, deputies and pre-candidates to public charges came to the act, as the president of republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the pre-candidate of PT to president of Republic, Dilma Roussef.

President Lula said that he waits from the next president more and better actions to combat misery, unemployment and the low salaries, highlighting that the minimum salary were readjusted 74% in his government.

Salary
evolution

“Before we used to fight for a minimum salary equivalent to US$ 100, but today the minimum is equivalent to US$ 300. We will continue the politic of increasing the minimum in order to the men and women of the country, who earn few, can live with dignity”, Lula said.

The former minister of the Civil House of the Presidence of Republic and pre-candidate of PT observed that the current government have shown that it is possible to increase income and job and to control inflation. This politic, according to her, have created 12,4 million jobs and, until the end of this year, Dilma believes in the generation of, at minimum, more two million new vacancies.

To finish
with poverty

“Brazil have grown for all sides. What’s coming next is an even better future. We’ll finish with poverty next decade”, she promised. The president of Força Sindical, Paulo Pereira da Silva, Paulinho, reminded the commitment of Dima with the poorest. “She can stand with the people, she can stand with workers”, he said.

Bahia focus at the smaller workload and enlargement of rights

The manifestations of the 1st of May at the country got together concerts with important bands and drafts, but they also gave space to political speeches focused at the main workers claims. At Bahia it wans’t different: our political act atracted 100 thousand people at Castro Alves Square.

Despite the party, we took in consideration that the 1st of May is a historical date that brings us to the workers fight in Chicago, USA, in 1886, for better work conditions and workload reduction.

In Brazil, this date were consolidated in 1925, at government Rodrigues Alves. But, it was at Getúlio Vargas government that the main measures in benefit of worker started to function. The 1st of May were chosen by Vargas to announce the annual salary readjust and it was in this date also that the president announced the workload reduction to 8 hours by day.

Because of that, it’s natural that our act focus at the workolad reduction from 44 hours to 40 hours weekly, without cut in the salaries and at the enlargement of rights. The world experience of fight of workers shows that the worklaod reduction increases the life quality of workers.

Men and women have more time to dedicate to study, professional qualification, leisure and to stand with family and socially. Besides, the measure can create about 2,5 million new jobs, according to Dieese calculus.

The creation of new work vacancies, allied to the increase of the worker affordability, will cause a warm up at economy, because the increase of consumption, creating a virtuous circle fundamental for the welfare of all society.
