Nilton Souza da Silva, Neco,
President of People in Commerce
Trade Union of Porto Alegre

In the opinion of the president of the People in Commerce Trade Union of Porto Alegre, Nilton Souza da Silva, Neco, it’s fundamental the presence of millions of people at the conference to show the workers unit and strenght. “We will organize caravans of all the states and regions of Brazil with trade union leaders from the country and from the city”, says the president of Força Sindical-SC, Osvaldo Mafra.

Elections for the parliament
The fight of the trade union movement, however, can’t be only limited to the elections for president. No matter who is the next president of the country, he (she) probably won’t have the same “affinit of Lula with the trade union movement”, according to avaliation of Diap.

This fact “will demand strong representation of workers at the parliament to make the dialogue between public authorities and the working class, and between this and the businessmen at the moments of conflict”, says the document.

“We have to re-elect the current representatives of workers and lead to the Senate and the House of the Representatives new allied of the salaried, for us to increase our bench at the Congress”, proposes the president of Força Sindical-SP, Danilo Pereira da Silva.

Commitment
A Congress with the majority of the politicians commited with the working class and with trade union experience is fundamental to support to a popular and democratic government and to face adverse conjunctures.

“As the document of Diap says, government Lula substituted the authoritary practice by the dialogue, debating and negotiating the work demands as in the private area as in the public area”, reminds Márfio Lima da Silva, president of the Central-MA.

Propostas dos
trabalhadores

It’s necessary to definy a development project

The trade union centrals will organize the Working Class National Conference, at the 1st of  June, at the Pacaembu Stadium, in São Paulo, to disccus and elaborate proposals about a national project of development to Brazil.

And the moment is propicious to this debate which interest mainly workers, specially because it is few months before the 2010 elections. Força Sindical, CGBT, CUT, Nova Central and CTB are convinced that any project of development for the country has to consider the general and specific claims of the trade union movement.

For workers, it has to be in this project the sustainable economic development, with income distribution, increase of the job offer and workolad reduction.

We will reach our objectives, if we keep unit in fight. The document, to be approved at the assembly, will be delivered to the candidates (man and woman) to President of Republic. The idea is to know who is going to commit with the workers proposals.

We want that the conference to be representative of the conjunct of the Brazilian trade union movement and shows the force and determination of the salaried.

For such, it’s fundamental that the leaders and militants of Força Sindical organize caravans of all states and regions of Brazil, with people from the country and from the city, men and women, retired and active workers for us to get together tens of thousands of activists who fight for a fair Brazil, democratic and much more solidary.

Average Brazilian income increases 17% in four years

Ipea (Institute of Aplied Economic Research) constated that the average income of Brazilian worker have grown 7,6% from 2002 to 2008, highlighting the period between 2004 and 2008, which have presented positive evolution of 17,1% - passing from R$ 850, 93 to R$ 996,45, in the last four analized years.

To Força Sindical, the result is because of the unit and fight of the trade union movement for better salaries and also to its main role in seeing its proposals of economic growth and income distribution accept.

Valorization of the minimum salary

According to Ipea, the highlight for the period was workers with smaller salaries, whose income have grown above the average. This because of the valorization of the minimum salary, which had real raise of 37%, passing from R$ 303 to R$ 415 between 2002 and 2008.

Examples: workers of the agriculture sector and domestic workers. For the first ones the gain was 21,15% between 2002 and 2008 and for domestic workers 15,36% at the same period.Foto: Eduardo Metrovich

Right in pressuring

“The constatation of the technitians of Ipea shows that we were right in pressuring the government to accept the proposal of recuperation of the minimum salary made by the trade union centrals”, says the general-secretary of the Metallurgist Trade Union of Osasco. Mônica Veloso.

The study uses data of the Pnad (National Research by Home Sample), made by IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Sthatistic).

More qualified

The Ipea research shows yet that Brazilian workers with qualification – with more than 9 years of study and which represent an universe of 42 million people – had, in average, fall in the income between 2002 and 2008, contrary to the gains of the other categories.

According to the institute, while in average the income of national work increased 7,59% at the period (from R$ 926,14 to R$ 996,45, in September, 2008), who studied  between 9 and 11 years had an income fall of 5,09%. For those with more than 11 years of study – with at least highschool level – the fall was even bigger, 12,76%.

Metallurgist want
a better salary and a fairer country

The metallurgists of the state of São Paulo will start one of the most important salary campaigns of the last years because the negotiations will happen in a scene of politic ebolution. This year the country elects its President (man or woman).

Beyond negotiating our issue with the businessmen, which includes real raise and renovation of the social clausules of the collective convention, we will have to present proposals to the candidates (man or woman) to the maximum post of Brazil.

In the state of São Paulo, the initiative of the federation will be to mobilize trade union leaders who work at the factories, by the realization of a cycle of preparatory courses to the salary campaign.

The courses, beyond stimulating the idea of unit of action at the trade unions, are part of a series of actions of the Federation to reforce even more the bows with the basis leaders in order to mobilize and strenghten the category.

The objective is to firm an excellent collective agreement with the bosses in the 1st of November, month of the data-basis.

In the political plan, we defend a project of national development for the country, which gives priority to the sustainable economic development, the generation of job and income, just as to defend the historical banner of the trade union movement, the workolad reduction without salary diminution and the promulgation of the Convention 158 of OIT.

Beyond these questions, the candidates (man or woman) have to commit to the metallurgist to defend the works rights, the approval of the law of real raise to the minimum salary, the recomposition of the affordability of the retired, the decent work and the end of the social security factor.
